For me it’s a thrill enough to check in to any ole’ hotel. I love travel, it’s been my life since I was little, and the hotel is a symbol of that, of new things. And when the arsenal is upped a little bit, it’s exhilarating. Ornate Water fountains and decadent or dazzling lighting, exotic fabrics and upholstery, or a unique interior design get me excited like a little kid.
And when you rearrange the fundamental components of a hotel into something completely new, you get a once in a lifetime experience. Let’s talk about Ice hotels.
The first was designed in Sweden and remains the largest ice hotel to this day. EVERYTHING is made of snow or ice in these massively surreal establishments. The insides always host some of the most beautiful lobbies, rooms, staircases, or sculptures. You name it, and it’s beautiful and cold.
Yes, when you stay in an ice hotel you are sleeping in a hotel room made of ice. But they provide you with everything you need to ensure the necessary level of comfort is there so that you can enjoy yourself. On top of the sheer beauty of simply being there, these places always offer unique winter excursions, dining arrangements, sauna set ups, and entertainment. The architecture isn’t the only thing they get creative with.
And no, you don’t have to spend thousands to afford a stay in one of these wonderful places. There are so many sites online like CheapTickets that can and will hook you up with discounted airfare just for booking through them so you can save on the actual accommodations. (which start as low as 140 Euros, roughly $180). Who knew that a winter vacation could mean a cold destination? Do something different this year.
